About Us
Chabad of Hong Kong was established in 1986 as the first Chabad House in Asia, igniting a vision for vibrant Jewish life across an emerging region. At a time when much of Asia had little to no organized Jewish infrastructure—and in some places only the most limited resources—Chabad HK, together with its regional network LIFE (Lubavitch in the Far East), set out to build from the ground up, planting the foundations of connection, tradition, and belonging.
Founded by Rabbi Mordechai and Goldie Avtzon, personally appointed by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of righteous memory, Chabad HK has grown into a warm and dynamic center for Jewish life. Today, that original vision has blossomed into a network of vibrant Jewish centers throughout the region, continuing to inspire and nurture Jewish life across Asia.
